To date, the artwork has been presented in more than 40 countries and experienced by over 30 million people.
• Liverpool Cathedral had 60,000 visitors in just 7 days!
• In just 8 months, 2.1 million people came to see the Moon at the Natural History Museum in London, making it their most popular exhibition!
• Lee Tung Avenue, Hong Kong doubled its visitors from 50,000 to 100,000 people to see the Moon. 54 journalists attended the launch.
• 275,000 visitors saw the Moon on a tour around five cities in India supported by the British Council.
• Hull Minster, UK received 16,000 visitors per day, the largest number of people in its 750-year history.
• 640,000 visitors saw the Moon in Gent, Belgium as part of their Light Festival across five days.
• Over 200,000 people visited the artwork when it was presented in the Beijing Olympic Swimming pool.
Social Media
The public are generally blown away by their first encounter with the artwork. Visitors instantly take out their cameras and take photos and selfies. After a while they settle down to contemplate and spend time with the artwork. Social media users can engage with the artwork by sharing their responses and images using the hashtag #MuseumoftheMoon. This contributes towards an understanding of how people from each location see and interpret the Moon, reflecting the culture of a city and its people.
