On August 23rd, Luke Jerram and his team floated the moon down a mile of the Bristol docks. Due to the British weather being unpredictable the ‘fallen moon’ was advertised just the day before it happened.
Many members of the public waited along the dockside for the Moon to arrive. Kids in pyjamas coming up with theories about how this happened? An asteroid hit it, a dinosaur knocked it down!? One child was reported to have run into a pub to find his mother shouting “Mum, Mum the Moon has fallen in the docks!”
Hundreds of people then followed the moon down the length of the harbour to where a surround sound musical score by Dan Jones, was played across the docks creating a beautiful and eerie ambience.
At the end of the event, the moon (which was ready for recycling) was cut up and sections given away to members of the public.
The event was delivered with kind support from the Harbour master and his team.
